WFAANZ Vice President Addresses Car Window Tinting Issue on Talkback Radio

Neil Mitchell interviewed Kip Linden on 3AW's morning program in response to the recent Victoria Police operation to combat illegal window tinting.

Mr Linden advised that many vehicles that meet the (federal) Australian Design Regulations, have glass darker than permissible under state laws, (except for the Northern Territory).

During the interview, Mr Linden explained that many imported vehicles with dark tinting have tint incorporated into the glass, which means that in order to comply with state laws, owners would have to replace the windows.

Mr Linden said that state authorities only became aware of the issue earlier this year, and has called for the irregularities in state laws removed, with sensible and consistent national regulations to be put in place.

Operation Clear View, where over 80 vehicles in Carlton were stopped and checked for illegal levels of window tinting, resulted in over 20 vehicles being defected and owners given a week to rectify their windows.
